Hello! My name is Sophia Alberti and I will be representing the girls' lacrosse team at the FEF Fashion Show this year! This year I will be a senior and will have dedicated all 4 years of my high school career to the Franklin team!

Let's be real- we've all seen moments in a game where a player trips over her own feet or takes a wayward check to the head (yikes!). But we've also seen moments where a girl misses a pass and accidentally takes a ball to the head. We've witnessed the aftermath of watching players struggle to find their bearing or clutching their heads in shock and pain.

According to Dawn Comstock PhD, an adjunct professor at the Colorado School of Public Health, "An estimated 44.7% of all girls’ LAX concussions could have been prevented if girls’ LAX players wore the helmet mandated in boys’ LAX".

The concussion rates in girls' lacrosse are crazy, and Comstock raises a good comparison. If we provide access to helmets, concussion rates could drop significantly. That's where you come in.

This year the lacrosse team will be focusing on fundraising a brand new set of helmets for players to use if they are interested. Each helmet is around $160. Our fundraising goal is around $3200, meaning that we would be able to buy a new set of around 20, hopefully enough to share between the JV and Varsity teams.

Parents, I know helmets aren't the best fashion statement (trust me), but she'll get over the helmet hair once she feels safer playing. Anything you could donate would be extremely helpful! The girls' lacrosse program thanks you!
